The 24 game: four numbers, one answer.
You get four numbers. Use each one exactly once with add, subtract, multiply, divide and brackets to make 24. Stuck? Ask for a solution, or use the solver for your own numbers.
How to play
Tap the numbers and operators, or just type an expression such as (8 − 4) × (7 − 1). Every number must be used once, and brackets are allowed. Each puzzle here has at least one solution.
Tips for finding 24
- Look for factor pairs of 24: 3 × 8, 4 × 6, 2 × 12, 1 × 24. Can you make one of those from two of your numbers?
- Try to make 8 and 3, or 6 and 4, from the numbers you have.
- Division can create fractions, and fractions can help: with 3, 3, 8, 8 the answer is 8 ÷ (3 − 8 ÷ 3) = 24.
- Subtraction can make a small number: (a − b) is often a 1 or 2 that you can multiply.
Games like this build number sense and flexible thinking, the same skills we focus on in our fun maths classes for kids.
FAQ
Common questions
Is every 24 game puzzle solvable?
Not every set of four numbers works. The game here only deals puzzles that have at least one solution, so you can always keep trying.
Can I use any target number instead of 24?
Yes. The solver lets you enter two to five numbers and any target and tells you whether + − × ÷ and brackets can reach it.
Can I use fractions along the way?
Yes. Intermediate results can be fractions, only the final answer has to be exactly 24. For example 1, 5, 5, 5 makes 24 as 5 × (5 − 1 ÷ 5).
