How to play Make 24
- Choose a level. Easy uses numbers 1 to 6; Hard uses 1 to 13 and puzzles with only a few solutions.
- Tap a number, then an operator (+ − × ÷), then a second number. They join into one new number.
- Keep combining until one number is left. If it is 24, you win the puzzle.
- Stuck? Press Hint for a first move (it costs points), or Undo and try another way.
Tips and strategy
- Look for pairs that make 24 easily: 3 × 8, 4 × 6, 2 × 12, 1 × 24.
- Work backwards from 24: what two numbers multiply to 24, or add to 24?
- A 1 is useful: it can multiply or divide without changing a number, or add a small step.
- When it seems impossible, try dividing to make a fraction. 8 ÷ (3 − 8 ÷ 3) uses one.

FAQ
Make 24: questions
What is the 24 game?
A maths puzzle where you use four numbers, each exactly once, with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to make 24.
Can I use brackets?
Yes, and here they happen automatically: each time you join two numbers, that step is like putting them in brackets.
Is every set of four numbers solvable?
No. Of the 1,820 sets of numbers from 1 to 13, 1,362 can make 24. A set such as 1, 1, 1, 1 cannot.
Is it okay to use fractions?
Yes. A step like 8 ÷ 3 is allowed, and the game keeps the exact fraction so nothing is rounded.
What ages is it for?
From about age 8 with the easy level. Older learners enjoy the hard level, where only a few solutions exist.
