How to play Mental Maths Sprint
- Choose a level: Warm-up, Fast or Lightning.
- Press Start. The first sum appears and the timer begins.
- Type your answer and press Enter. Right or wrong, the next sum comes straight away.
- When the 60 seconds are up you see how many you got right and which ones to practise.
Tips and strategy
- Do not stop on a hard one: skip it with any answer and keep the speed up.
- Say the sum in your head as words, not as a picture.
- Use doubles and near-doubles: 7 + 8 is 7 + 7 + 1.
- Practise the times tables first, since they give you most of the speed.

FAQ
Mental Maths Sprint: questions
How can I get faster at mental maths?
Learn the times tables and number bonds until they are automatic, then practise a little each day with a timer. Strategies like doubling and adding ten help with the rest.
Is a timer good for children?
A short timer can be fun for children who enjoy it, and wrong answers cost no time here. If a child gets worried, practise untimed on the maths practice page first.
What is a good score in a 60 second maths game?
On the Warm-up level 20 to 30 is good for ages 6 to 8. On Fast and Lightning, 15 to 25 is a strong score. Compare with your own best, not with others.
What topics are in the sprint?
Addition, subtraction, times tables, division, fractions of a number, percentages and order of operations, depending on the level.
