The Speedsolver's Journey
The 4 Milestones to Sub-30 Second Mastery
Every cuber follows this exact sequence. Here is what to focus on at each milestone to break through speed plateaus.
The First Solve (2 to 5 Mins)
Master the layer-by-layer method: White Daisy, White Cross, White Corners, Middle Layer Edges, Yellow Cross, Yellow Edges, and Corner Permutation. Focus on understanding how pieces move rather than speed.
7-step beginner guide →Sub-60 Seconds (Beginner CFOP)
Stop rotating the whole cube constantly. Solve the cross on the bottom (White Cross down). Learn the two basic triggers: R U R' U' (Righty Sexy Move) and R' F R F' (Sledgehammer) to place corners and edges effortlessly.
Sub-30 Seconds (Intuitive F2L)
This is where the magic happens! Instead of solving first-layer corners and second-layer edges separately, pair them up in the top layer and insert both together. Learn 2-Look OLL and 2-Look PLL so the last layer takes under 8 seconds.
F2L starter cases →Sub-20 Seconds & Competition Ready
Master all 21 full PLL algorithms. Practice 'lookahead'—tracking your next pair with your eyes while your fingers execute the current pair on muscle memory. Add inspection planning (planning the entire cross during the 15-second inspection).

Frequently Asked Questions About Speedcubing
Can any child or adult learn to solve a Rubik's Cube?
Yes, absolutely! Solving the Rubik's Cube is not an innate genius talent; it is an algorithm sequence—much like following a recipe or learning a musical instrument. We have taught children as young as 5 and adults over 70 to solve it comfortably within their first two to three sessions.
What is the CFOP method and when should I learn it?
CFOP stands for Cross, F2L (First Two Layers), OLL (Orientation of the Last Layer), and PLL (Permutation of the Last Layer). It is the method used in almost every World Record solve. Beginners start with the 7-step Layer-by-Layer method, and transition to Intuitive F2L once they can solve the cube in under 90 seconds.
How do speedcubers turn the cube so fast without locking up?
Speedcubers use 'fingertricks'—pushing and flicking individual faces with single index and ring fingers instead of turning with the whole wrist. They also use modern magnetic speed cubes with rounded piece corners that allow 'corner-cutting' (turning even if a layer is misaligned by 45 degrees).
Is speedcubing beneficial for a child's brain and academic focus?
Research shows speedcubing dramatically strengthens spatial reasoning, working memory, hand-eye coordination, and bilateral motor skills. Even more powerfully, it teaches children 'productive failure'—they scramble, make a mistake, analyze the pattern, and reset without frustration.
What is a good beginner speed cube to buy?
Never buy a stiff, unbranded toy-store cube. Excellent magnetic starter cubes like the MoYu RS3M 2020 or QiYi Warrior M cost under $12 (₹800 to ₹1,200), turn effortlessly, and feature factory-installed magnets that snap layers into perfect alignment.
