Age 7 · Grade 2 · Year 3 · Class 2
Maths, coding and Rubik's Cube for 7-year-olds.
Seven-year-olds can concentrate for longer and like rules, collections and challenges. Reading is usually comfortable enough for simple instructions.
Maths
Place value to 1,000, adding and subtracting with carrying, the 2, 5 and 10 times tables, simple fractions, telling the time to five minutes, shapes.
Coding
Loops and conditions in block-style or game-based coding. Many children can start Code Jungle or a Scratch-style tool.
Rubik's Cube
The 2×2 first layer is a good target, and some seven-year-olds solve a 3×3 with a patient helper.
A good first goal
Times tables 2, 5 and 10 and a clear picture of place value.
A simple week
About 10 to 15 minutes a day. Here is one way to spread it:
| Day | What to do |
|---|---|
| Mon | Practise a times table |
| Wed | A coding game with loops |
| Fri | 2×2 cube first layer |

FAQ
Age 7: questions parents ask
Should a seven-year-old learn all the times tables now?
Not all at once. The 2, 5 and 10 tables come first, then 3 and 4. Understanding them as equal groups matters more than reciting them quickly.
Is the Rubik's Cube too hard at seven?
The 3×3 can be, but the 2×2 first layer and the patterns page are friendly starting points. Many seven-year-olds enjoy the notation quiz and move detective games.
What maths should a 7-year-old be learning?
Place value to 1,000, adding and subtracting with carrying, the 2, 5 and 10 times tables, simple fractions, telling the time to five minutes, shapes. Every school sets its own order, so check the textbook your child uses.
Can a 7-year-old learn to code?
Loops and conditions in block-style or game-based coding. Many children can start Code Jungle or a Scratch-style tool.
Can a 7-year-old solve a Rubik's Cube?
The 2×2 first layer is a good target, and some seven-year-olds solve a 3×3 with a patient helper.
What school year is a 7-year-old in?
Roughly Grade 2 in the US, Year 3 in the UK and Class 2 in India. It depends on the country, the school and the birthday.
How much should a 7-year-old practise?
10 to 15 minutes a day is plenty, mixed across maths, coding and puzzles. Short and regular beats long and rare.
