PLL · Corners only

Aa-perm algorithm.

The Aa-perm cycles the corners UFR → UBL → UBR → UFR. It is 9 moves: x R' U R' D2 R U' R' D2 R2 x'.

The case, seen from above with the front at the bottom.

The algorithm

x R' U R' D2 R U' R' D2 R2 x'

9 moves. The picture is the position this algorithm solves. After the last move the whole cube is solved.

What it does to the pieces

The Aa-perm cycles the corners UFR → UBL → UBR → UFR. The names show where the piece is: UFR is the corner where the top, front and right faces meet, and UR is the edge between the top and right faces. Everything else, including the whole top face colour, stays as it was.

Its reverse is the Ab-perm.

How to recognise it

In the picture you can see a pair of headlights (two matching corner stickers with a different colour between them) on the back side.

The first thing to look for is whether the case has a bar (three matching stickers on one side) or headlights (two matching corner stickers). Learn those two clues for all 21 cases and you will rarely have to think about which algorithm to use.

The reverse algorithm

Doing the moves backwards, each turned the other way, undoes the Aa-perm. That is how the picture above was made.

x R2 D2 R U R' D2 R U' R x'

Tips for learning it

  • Practise it slowly on the virtual cube until you can type it from memory.
  • Learn it in chunks of three to five moves, and say them aloud.
  • Do it ten times and count how many are right. When all ten are, speed up.

FAQ

Aa-perm: questions

What does the Aa-perm do?

The Aa-perm cycles the corners UFR → UBL → UBR → UFR. The top face stays one colour and the first two layers are untouched.

What is the Aa-perm algorithm?

x R' U R' D2 R U' R' D2 R2 x'. It is 9 moves long and already includes the final turn of the top layer, so the cube is solved when it ends.

How do I recognise the Aa-perm?

In the picture you can see a pair of headlights (two matching corner stickers with a different colour between them) on the back side.

How many PLL cases are there?

There are 21 PLL cases. Two-look PLL lets you solve the last layer with only five or six of them.
