Pieces of text
Print the first letter of the word, then the word backwards.

Every character in text has a position number, starting at 0. word[0] is the first character and word[-1] is the last. A slice takes a piece: word[1:4] gives the characters from position 1 up to (not including) 4. word[::-1] reads the text backwards.
