  • How do you know you did not count one twice?
  • What number comes after 7?
  • Can you show me 5 with your fingers?

If it feels hard

Use real objects in a line and move each one as it is counted.

FAQ

Counting objects to 10: questions

How high should a 5-year-old count?

Most count to 10 confidently and many to 20 or more. The aim is counting objects accurately, not only saying the words.

What is a ten frame?

A box of 2 rows of 5 spaces. Filling it with counters shows numbers to 10 and how close a number is to 10.

Is there a counting worksheet?

Yes, the practice sheet for this lesson can be printed with an answer key.
