How to play Lights Out
- Choose a board: 3 x 3, 4 x 4 or 5 x 5.
- Press a light to flip it and its neighbours up, down, left and right.
- Switch off every light to solve the puzzle.
- Press Undo or Restart if you want to try again. Press Hint to see a press from a perfect solution (it costs 5 points).
- Fewer presses earn more stars. Five puzzles make a round.
Tips and strategy
- Pressing the same light twice does nothing, so never press one twice.
- The order of your presses does not matter, only which lights you press.
- Work row by row from the top: use the row below to fix the row above.
- If you are stuck, restart and use Hint to learn the pattern.

Can every board be solved?
Every puzzle in this game is made by pressing lights on a blank board, so it can always be solved, and the solver knows the fewest presses needed.
What does the hint do?
It finds the shortest solution from the current board and glows one light from it. Using a hint costs 5 points.
What age is it for?
About 8 and up. The 3 x 3 board is a good start and the 5 x 5 board is a real challenge.
